Experts claim that the rate of melting of glaciers in the Hindu Kush over the past decade has increased by 65% compared to the 2000s. According to experts’ forecasts, by the middle of the century, glacier melting as well as the release of water resources will reach its peak, which will subsequently cause water shortages.
The ICIMOD report indicates that a temperature rise of up to two degrees Celsius will cause the loss of up to 50% of the region’s glacier volume, and if the temperature rises by 3-4 degrees Celsius, the volume of ice loss could reach a fabulous 80%.
