Humans breathe methane and nitrogen oxide, among other gases, and it is these gases that researchers have recently focused on to find out the extent and nature of our impact on the environment. While our CO2 is absorbed by plants and has a negligible impact on nature, CH4 and NO have a significant impact on global warming.
Scientists analyzed samples of these compounds emitted by 104 adult volunteers. It turned out that nitric oxide was excreted by all participants, while methane was excreted by only 31% of subjects, and it was more often excreted by women and subjects over thirty. It is not yet clear why the distribution was this way.
