James Cameron, a renowned film director and ocean explorer, has come out in favor of deep-sea mining, calling it a lesser evil than onshore mining. He believes that mining on the deep seabed, where there is less biodiversity, is more ethical and justified.
Cameron denies the fears of environmentalists and scientists who claim that mining at such depths could destroy entire ecosystems.
According to the “Titanic” director, there are very few living things at considerable depths with virtually no access to sunlight. These areas are called abyssal plains.
